Parent involvement is as you indicate very teacher and schools driven. They set the agenda and define the limits to parent action. Engagement is much more challenging. It suggests a reciprocal relationship which challenges teachers to step outside their comfort zone and into the world of the student’s family and community. The key objective which should never be forgotten is that when parents are truly engaged in their children’s education they achieve more.
