Parent Trigger Petition Approved

The Adelanto (CA) School District’s Board of Trustees approved a proposed charter replacing a school as a result of a parent trigger petition on Tuesday.

You can read about it in the local paper and a more complete piece at The Hechinger Report.

Only 53 of the original 466 parent petitioners voted for the charter school that was selected, so it will be interesting to see how many parents actually choose to send their children there.

During my nineteen year community organizing career, we always, of course, wanted to win our organizing battles. Sometimes, though, we also remembered the organizing adage that “sometimes the only thing worse than losing an organizing fight is winning one.” In other words, so many bridges have been burned and so much energy has been spent, that it really turns into a Pyrrhic victory.

We’ll see what happens next year….
