  1. Larry,

Thank you for your support! You were curious about more information about the National Family Engagement Alliance. NFEA is an alliance of individuals, families and organizations committed to transforming education through meaningful family engagement. We strive to meet an unmet need in the education landscape, especially for those who are often under served and under represented in their communities. The launch at Mom Congress was an opportunity to immediately engage those in attendance whose thoughts and ideas helped birth the idea of the NFEA. In June we will be announcing our advisory board as well as our digital platform via http://www.familyengagementalliance.org

As we have often talked about, parents and families are often absent from the critical discussions that are taking place in our communities of learning. As you know I have written (and advocated) quite extensively about creating better, healthier relationships between our schools and homes. Certainly one way is to educate families about policy and data. Another is to facilitate better communication where the schools and parents create the language of engagement together (as you have also written about). It is our hope that through this alliance we will be able to assist and empower those parents to participate more in their schools, districts, and states, and be seen as partners in education. If we are to create a sustainable community for all, then we all must be part of the conversation.

NFEA is here to help create better connections in order to achieve better collaboration and communication between our families and our schools so that all our students are successful.

Currently we can be found on facebook (National Family Engagement Alliance) and twitter (@EngageFamilies). If you have additional questions, feel free to reach out to me via those mediums or my own twitter account @MyrdinJT.

    Thank you again!
